Adding a New Page

All content and collections need a page to sit on.

You can make a blog, or a gallery, or a calendar (Events), but if you want visitors to your site to make use of the information you've provided, you need a page to display that content on.

Adding vs Editing a Page

If you already have a page that you'd like to make changes to, go to that page and click the 'Edit' link in the blue bar above the page, toward the left. (See Editing an Existing Page)

If you want to create a brand new page with new information, then please follow these steps to Add a Page.

Add a New Page:

Using the black admin bar to the left of your website, click the Pages link.

On the top right of the page is a blue "Add Page" button. Click it.

You will now be asked to make some choices:

Page Type

Page type page - This is the type of page you will used most frequently. Page type pages are edited on the page itself.

Note: Most other types of pages are edited using their individual collection. Following is a brief overview.

Blog type page - If you want a blog on your website, choose a blog page lets you get a blog started.

Note: You may have multiple blogs on your website. Only one caution: make sure you are posting to the correct blog when you post. Blog posts cannot be switched from one blog to another, they must be deleted and reposted to the correct blog.

Calendar type page - a Calendar page pulls the events you've added to the Events collection and displays them to the public. When you first set up your website a Calendar page called "Events" was included. Unless you deleted Events, you shouldn't ever need to add a Calendar style page.

Media type page - a Media page allows you to make the video and audio files that you've uploaded to the media collection available for public use.

Store type page - if you wish to sell items on you website, a store page will connect the store items to a page where site visitors can purchase whatever you're selling.

Forwarder type page - this type of page lets you add a link to your navigation but instead of adding your own content, you can link it to either an existing page on your website, or to a page on a different website.

Collection type page - if you have created your own custom collection, the collection type page will allow you to insert the code that will display the information from that collection.

Select a Layout

Once you've chosen a page type, you may be asked to select a layout. Different page types need different setup information. You may find specific instructions for each page type by clicking the links for those page types above.

Following are the instructions for adding a Page type page.

There are at least three layouts. Home, Article and Open.

The Home layout is designed for the Home page. In general, it has the bigger image banner which is often a carousel. It is designed to be an introduction to your website. You may use this layout on all your pages if you wish, but the Carousel will be the same on all the pages the Home page is used on. It is recommended that you use it only on the Home page.

The Article layout's most frequent characteristic is that it has a sidebar. This gives you at least two areas of editable space, the main content area which tends to be the the larger area and the sidebar which is usually narrower. This layout works well for pages that have several types of information, but are not the Home page.

The Open layout is one large editable area. This layout works well on the various collections or pages where you want to use columns.

Depending on the theme you've chosen there may be other layouts as well. The icon used with the layout name gives a hint of what the layout looks like in actual use.

Layouts can easily be changed once the page is created, so even if you end up choosing a layout you don't like, you can change it later.

Create

Enter a title for the page.

This title will be used at the top of the page to identify what the page is about.

It will also be used as the Navigation link.

And, as you type the title, you will notice the URL is automatically being created. You may modify the URL in the URL field if you wish, but keep in mind that every page on your website must have a unique URL.

This screen will also ask you to choose a Parent page. This determines how the page gets inserted into your site outline.

It is recommended that you keep your Main navigation links - the ones that have 'Home' for a parent - to a minimum. Keep these pages as broad, general topics and use child pages to add more specific information for each of the general topics.

When you have finished filling out the page title and chosen a parent page, click the blue 'Create' button.

And Publish!

Your new page will now load in edit mode. You may add content now and publish the page, or you may publish the page and come back to edit it (add content) later.

Information about adding your content - either before or after publishing the page can be found in the Edit an Existing Page section.
